One to Watch: TY

by omniosi on May.06, 2010, under sense, sight, sound

TY – EMOTIONS music video featuring Sarina Leah and Shaun Escoffery from tymusic on Vimeo.

“Who never got the props that (he) damn well deserved…” ~ Phife
TY can rock a party with an a capella orchestra. At six in the evening. In Elephant and Castle. I’ve seen it.

And that is when I realized that his is a talent that is not to be denied. He was selected to work with Tony Allen on Tony’s solo album. He’s had guests like Tyler McFerrin, Rich Medina, and De La Soul on his last album and his latest album is pretty dern good. He put out a maxi single of remixes to his latest single. Heavy weight music from Dego MacFarlane (One half of 4 Hero) and WAAJEED (another One to Watch!), but i still prefer the above original version.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Mercury Prize nominee TY.

nice vid. i always find it hard to believe that these animatics are the official videos, but this one is amazing. great production art and voiceover work over a cool Dilla beat. worth more than one watch.

bright eyes – “first day of my life”

an excellent song with a video that conveys the lyrics and mood perfectly.

Amazing.

Points for:

-The VHS effect, making the video look like a dubbed porn you found in your dad’s closet.
-Looking like Bootsy on them steps before the lights come up.
-Taking the talk box tube out of his mouth before the effects let up. Gangsta.
-The Doves bite towards the end.

Feel free to highlight your own.

A+

This short film (a minute and a half total) is part of my student thesis project. I’m curious to see how people respond to it. Take a look and then give a brief answer to the questions that follow.

1. Is this entertaining?

2. Did you feel at all overwhelmed? Is it too much information all at once?

3. Did the music enhance the experience or did it get in the way?

4. Do you think that the visuals change or influence your experience of the text? If so, how?

5. Where would you see yourself using this?

6. Would you buy something like this? If so, how much would you pay for it?

7. Is there anything that you would change about this presentation?

thanks for taking the time to view and give your opinion.
